I have significant management experience across the full breadth and depth of Higher Education student administration (from enquiry/admissions through to graduation). I specialised in the development of student information systems delivering core University business processes, and in managing those systems once live.
I co-led the business-side of the development of a new in-house student record systems (and a range of linked systems - bepsoke and third-party - providing student-related functions), and managed development of systems and processes delivered through third-party suppliers (including Tribal’s SITS:Vision). I possess a sound understanding of IT/technical principles and of practical solutions i.e. what is pragmatic and sustainable.
I bring practical experience from a large and complex Russell Group University of leading and managing projects delivering new or re-engineered business processes through student record and related systems. I have a track record of delivering sustainable solutions - managing multiple stakeholders with complex and competing requirements, removing barriers to service improvement. integrating manual practices and software in a robust manner, managing the transition (including the human, management and organisational issues relating to change), and owning/managing the overall process and systems once implemented.
I have owned major returns to statutory customers (HESA Student, KIS, Funding Council Returns etc), managed major student administration events, and ensured continuation of those fundamental functions that are not recognised until they fail. I led or made significant contribution to improvements to the student and applicant experience – either through direct provision, or through facilitating academic and their support staff to add value.
I am able to operate strategically whilst analysing and understanding practical implications and impacts, and assessing and managing risk. I take ownership for ensuring that business processes (normally delivered via systems) are sustainable and supported and that business benefits are achieved i.e. delivering in practice.
I have significant experience of developing new policies and procedures (in response to developments in the regulatory framework or internal change) and of codifying into practice, of influencing and persuading senior colleagues and external bodies, of taking independent decisions on complex and high impact issues, and of managing budgets and managing and supporting staff.
I am resilient and robust with substantial personal drive and tenacity; innovative and constantly seeking efficiency improvements. I am committed and a “doer” (hands-on) who can work flexibly and responsively under considerable pressure.
