Post January 2013
Details of references from staff at those institutions with whom I have worked since 2013 are available on request.
As at December 2012
I was greatly touched and humbled by the (wholly unsolicited) testimonials received from my peers and colleagues in the lead up to leaving the University of Edinburgh at the end of 2012. Samples are provided below.
"…..I also want to thank you for remaining in post until the end of the calendar year. This will be very helpful to us and demonstrates your great integrity and care for the University and your colleagues…..I do want to thank you for all of your extraordinary work over the years. I've only had two years to observe and get to know you but it is clear that you are extremely talented, dedicated and professional. I am very sorry to lose you and I know that many others will share this feeling."
Dr Kim Waldron, University Secretary (2011 to 2013), University of Edinburgh
"I was very sorry to learn that you will be leaving the University. I know, personally, that you have made a tremendous contribution, and I greatly valued your advice and counsel, always offered with the best interests of the University in mind; and I know how hard you have worked over the years since you joined from Moray House."
Melvyn Cornish, retired University Secretary (2003 to 2010), University of Edinburgh
"I am terribly upset that you are leaving…..it has been a real pleasure to work with you and to learn about the record system through your expertise and enthusiasm."
Dr Sue Rigby, Vice-Principal, Academic Enhancement, University of Edinburgh
“I can't say how sorry I was to hear the news at the end of the meeting yesterday of Bruce's resignation. And in particular because it wasn't due to him being poached by another university for a wonderful new post, which would have been a fitting recognition of his talents and his deep commitment to HE…..it is the most terrible news for the University….all the Colleges have total trust in Bruce to run and develop the student systems."
Janet Rennie, Director of Academic and Student Administration, College of Humanities and Social Science, University of Edinburgh
“I'm incredibly disappointed that you're going - both on a personal and professional level. The loss of your knowledge, insights and positive approach to problem solving will be really missed by me and other Careers Service staff. I've found you a very supportive and collaborative colleague - and good fun into the bargain! - so at a personal level I will also miss you.”
Shelagh Green, Director of Careers Service, University of Edinburgh
"I am genuinely sorry to hear this news.....you will be a great loss to the University..... you have always had the University's best interests at heart and the University is losing a wonderfully devoted and committed employee..... I have always appreciated your help over the years and the significant experience which you bring to discussions."
Robert Lawrie, Director of Scholarships and Student Funding, University of Edinburgh
"There are so many people who will miss you and the invaluable insight, experience and input that you always gave so willingly. There are also many people (myself included), who will miss your frankness, your integrity and your capacity to cut to the chase, and to see and say things for what they are. The University will be a poorer and much duller place without you."
Jan Gardiner, Assistant Director, Student Disability Service, University of Edinburgh
“I am deeply sorry that you have decided to resign. You have always been helpful, supportive and a very dedicated colleague and you have always done your utmost to give an exceptionally high level of service to all staff and your own team. I just wanted you to know that everything you have done has always been greatly appreciated; you are very highly regarded and respected by all and I personally have really valued your support through the merger and beyond.”
Cameron Murdoch, Former Assistant Registrar, Edinburgh College of Art
"I've had the pleasure of working with you and your team more recently….your insight and encyclopaedic knowledge will be greatly missed!"
Senior Strategic Planner, University of Edinburgh
"Your knowledge, energy and humour will be hard to replace."
Careers Service Colleague
